Horrible Human Being Update

5/13/06

UPDATE!

Good evening Mr. and Mrs. America and all the ships at sea let's go to press!

You may remember at the beginning of the month I did a blog on one shit-heel of a broad by the name of Kaavya Viswanathan, the Harvard freshman who was caught plagiarizing huge chunks of her novel How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life from another actual writer named Megan McCafferty. In fact, Viswanathan made our illustrious "Douche Bag of the Month" in April for her terrifically horrifying behavior.

Since that blog some fantastic things have happened and I just wanted to give you an update on little miss steals-alot. Her publisher, Little, Brown and Co has decided they're not going to re-release her novel after changing the plagiarized sections (probably because it would reduce the book to the size of a brochure) and has cancelled her contract for a second book. Not only that, but Dreamworks SKG has run screaming from their proposal to make a movie out of the book. That $500,000 contract? Gone! Chances for her to ever be taken seriously again? So long! Odds this will haunt her for the rest of her life? Pretty fucking good! Ahhhh...

You know, sometimes when you think the world holds nothing but disappointment and misery, where the assholes and cheaters just keep on getting rewarded for their dastardly behavior, the universe wells up and smites some jerk-face with a steaming plate of just desserts.

Oh, for those of you who were wondering, my first line up there ("Good evening Mr. and Mrs." etc) was stolen from the late Walter Winchell's opening tag of his popular radio show from the thirties. See the difference there, Kaavya? That's what's called "giving your source credit." What a tool.
